Google I/O: 2010 application installations from the market was over 8 times of 2008 and 2009 combined

From the charts, shown at Google I/O this morning, Android has clearly not slowed down one bit in the application installs category. It looks like they are more than full speed ahead. Android Market application installs in 2011 has almost passed all of 2010 in just Q1 of 2011 alone. Showing that things are moving along just fine to say the least. By the end of Q2 2011 installs will have completely passed all of 2010, and by the end of 2011 things will surely be off the chart.

Android Market bound to have more apps than the App Store in the next few months

Research firms Distimo and research2guidance, have both released reports predicting that the Android Market will overtake Apple’s App Store in the number of apps, in the next few months.

Google Earnings Call Q12011: Android Activations at 350,000 Daily & 3 billion total app installed

During their Q1 earnings call, Google’s Jeff Huber provided said the number of devices activated daily equals some 350,000 handsets. And with all of these activations the number of app installs from the Android Market have increased by 50 percent since the final quarter of 2010. App installs now sit at 3 billion.

Android Will Trump iPhone Two-to-One According to GetJar’s Global Consumer Survey

The survey points to the growing demand for Android, reporting almost 40 percent of respondents said they will switch to Android when they purchase their next phone, compared to the 18 percent who said they would like to switch to the iPhone.

34% of smartphone owners have an Android device in their pockets versus 21% that own an iPhone. 17% uses Windows Mobile, 16% BlackBerry and 13% use Symbian devices. For most of the respondents, their current smartphone is their first (60%). In 39% of the cases, Android owners chose Android before starting their search for their new phone. They selected it for it’s usability. This is less under other operating systems.

40% of all Google Maps usage is from mobile devices

  • 40% of all Google Maps usage is from mobile devices, and Christmas and New Years day mobile usage surpassed desktop usage for the first time.
  • 150 million mobile users on Google Maps
  • Google Maps Navigation, included on Android handsets, has guided users 12 billion miles a year, and the latest version with traffic routing saves users 2 years per day in time that would have been spent in traffic.

Eric Schmidt Speaks at Mobile World Congress

As of today, February 15th, there are 350,000 new Android phones being activated on a daily basis.  That equates to more than 127 million Android devices a year at the current rate.  These activations come from 170 compatible devices, 27 OEMs, and 169 carriers spread across 69 countries.

The official tally now sits at 150,000 applications, more than three times what it was just nine months ago.
